AyushMed Healthcare successfully concluded its second major community event — a Career Counselling Session for BUMS students from Jamia Hamdard (Batch 2019) — held on September 6th, 2025, to mark the occasion of Teacher’s Day.
Following the tremendous response to our First Free Health Camp in August 2025, this session continued our efforts to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical experience in the field of Unani medicine and holistic wellness.
The counselling session brought together an audience of enthusiastic medical students and a panel of highly respected Unani experts, turning what could have been a formal seminar into a dynamic and interactive learning space.
Among the speakers were Prof. (Hkm) Shakir Jamil, a veteran in Unani medicine and former Director General of CCRUM, Dr. Md Wasi Akhtar, a leading consultant and academic, and Dr. Irfan Khan, Hijama and wellness therapy specialist at AyushMed Healthcare. Each of them brought something unique to the table — from personal journeys in the field to institutional knowledge, policy insights, and hands-on clinical expertise.
The session opened with a brief welcome by Mr. Ikramul Haque, setting the tone for a day focused on growth, clarity, and mentorship. Dr. Md Wasi Akhtar kicked off the talks by breaking down the challenges and opportunities in pursuing higher education in Unani medicine. He spoke about realistic postgraduate paths, specialization options, and how students can begin building a roadmap even before graduation.
This was followed by a deeply engaging session from Prof. Shakir Jamil, who spoke about the evolving landscape of research and development in Unani. With decades of policy and clinical experience, he emphasized the importance of bridging traditional knowledge with scientific inquiry and evidence-based practice.
Wrapping up the core talks, Dr. Irfan Khan gave the students a glimpse into the real-life application of wellness therapies like Hijama. He shared success stories, case studies, and practical advice on how to approach patients, set up clinical practice, and balance ancient methods with modern patient expectations.
The Q&A session that followed was anything but routine. Students asked thoughtful questions — not just about degrees and exams — but about career longevity, ethical practice, research funding, and even work-life balance in clinical settings. This sincere curiosity turned the discussion into a conversation. Lunch was served afterward, but the learning didn’t stop there. Many students took the opportunity to continue one-on-one conversations with the speakers in an informal setting.
What stood out the most was the response from the students themselves. Many shared how this was their first experience engaging so closely with senior Unani professionals in a non-academic setting. They appreciated the approachable tone of the session and felt more confident about their next steps — whether it be higher studies, clinical internships, or simply staying committed to the field.
For AyushMed, this event was more than just a gathering — it was a commitment to nurturing the next generation of Unani and wellness professionals. Just as the first health camp focused on public outreach and community care, this event focused on mentorship and professional growth.
And we’re not stopping here. With more workshops, clinical camps, and student-focused programs planned in the coming months, we’re building momentum — and a strong, supportive ecosystem for anyone interested in holistic health.
